we painted our house black

When John and I first saw this house, we loved just about everything about it, besides the scalloped wood trim on the outside. To be completely honest, if we weren’t in a historic district, we probably would have removed it, but that wasn’t an option for us. So, we decided to paint it black. The black helps to tone down the barbie dream house vibe and add a little bit more masculinity to the exterior. We still have a few more changes that we need to make, but we are slowly but surely, moving in the direction we’d like to go! Did you see our mood board for our exterior renovations?

To paint our house, we reached out to a few painters. If you haven’t read more about how to select a contractor, be sure to check out that post. We were fairly certain that our chipping exterior paint was lead paint, so we had them test it prior to getting started. When lead paint is involved, it is a far more intricate removal process and requires more protection for both the ground and the painters. The process of abatement and painting took a little under a week and cost us about $6k. Without the lead issue, you could expect to pay a little bit less. Let me know below if you’ve gotten the exterior of your home painted, what did it cost and where are you located!
