the vision board for our house
Our 1918 house has amazing details. The kind that you would pay premium dollar for now; elaborate trim, gold hardware, solid wood doors, etc. So, when planning our the design for our new home, we new we wanted to celebrate the character that was already there, but we also wanted to show that our house is up to date, modern, and serves our needs. So we thought the best way to do that was to blend the older details with new modern ones.
For materiality, we want our materials to be timeless, much like the details of our house. So we are planning on using natural stones, varying tones of woods and textures, and gold and black hardware. The colors that we’re choosing to incorporate will be mostly neutrals with smatterings of rich historical colors like olive green, mauve, and mulberry. Whenever we add new millwork, it will be very minimal and streamlined. We want it to be clear what we added later down the line versus what is original to the house, but still have the two be cohesive. Our goal for our home is to create a comfortable, welcoming environment that celebrates the character of our house and us.
